In 1590, Dounens was first noted on maps of Scotland by cartographers. The site is now known as Dunans and features a centuries old manor house, transformed into a mock castle in 1864 and largely destroyed by fire in 2001. Of more cultural significance is the A-listed Dunans Bridge, designed and built by Thomas Telford in 1815. Dunans Castle social enterprise has established a program of hands-on training to provide an invaluable conservation experience. Experts in traditional building will teach AiP volunteers skills needed to restore both the the bridge and the "castle".

For full details, see the AiP project page.
